I bought this S3 in Sept. '82 with 32k on the clock by March '83 at about 35k I had fitted a Le Mans engine converted to 948 plus SS cam, gas flowed heads, 40mm carbs, PR silencers (but not headers) and electronic ignition, the rotating mass plus conrods and pistons were dynamically balanced. The original engine has sat in a corner of the garage since then, it turns over by hand.
I started to refurbish the bike planning to go to the Moto Guzzi centenary in Mandello. Frame/SA/fork sliders and footrest carriers were powder coated. New seals fitted to forks, brake calipers, engine and gear box front and rear. New bearings in wheels and cardan joint. New clutch with deeper splines fitted. Plus new small parts eg brake pipe, rear light bracket etc. Mudguard stays and other small parts re-chromed. Normal service items renewed/changed e.g. tyres, brake pads/fluid, plugs etc. Before the the refurb was finished covid intervened and I lost interest in doing the final touches – tank/side panels/ exhaust pipes and silencers need repainting, the photographs flatter them, passenger grab handles need re-chroming currently painted black. Non original cycle parts fitted include handle bar switches, headlight and seat, I have original or pattern parts for these. I do not have original exhaust pipes/silencers or footrest carriers.
