Lodola 175cc

Postby John Taylor » Mon Feb 05, 2018 5:48 pm

Hello.
I am in need of a bakelite fuel tank cap for Lodola 175cc. It has a screw thread internally to fasten onto the tank. Has anyone got one they could sell please.
Regards

Male thread on tank, female thread in cap? Any idea what size?
Some of the Ducati singles have Bakelite caps, which are quite easy to get hold of.

Thanks for the tip,
I did buy one off ebay, quite cheap and well made, unfortunately,

The tank is :  50mm outside diameter x 2.5mm pitch,
The cap is:    50mm outside diameter x 1.5mm pitch,

Never the twain shall meet, except for one rotation.

What I may end up doing, or trying to do, is turn/screw cut a piece of aluminium with 2.5 pitch internally and as small as o.d. I can safely make it. Turn the thread out of the cap and glue the insert (with some kind of petrol resistant glue) into the cap. However, first, not sure if my lathe has the change gears, second not sure I have the skill and third not sure there is sufficient material in the cap to allow the boring out to be a success. So, this would be a last resort hence the search for the correct cap.

I have tried a few of the sources for spares in Italy without success, if anyone can help it would get me sorted as this is one of the last things to do on a rebuild.

Thanks

Outside chance, it migt be worth a word with North Leicester Motorcycles, I call in occasionally and sometimes they amaze me as to just what they have in their Aladins Cave of a spares department upstairs

Yep it is looking like 50mm diameter thread and 2.5mm pitch - however I don't have a
thread gauge , I am simply measuring with a tape measure / eyesight so , as it is an
expensive item, I cannot guarantee it. You are of course welcome to pop- in and have a look for yourself ( with the tank ) , I'm in Rayleigh , Essex....Jim.

Thanks Jim for your replies. With postage it comes to about £50 for the cap. I think this is a bit beyond common sense, i will keep searching to see what turns up.
Thanks' anyway. JohnT

Yep , I thought the same , but at least you know a Zigolo cap might well fit, so if you
see one at a sensible price ....... in fact mine is cracked and will need replacing but I
thought £50 was taking the wee-wee too, next of luck  -Jim.
