Nice bike if I had the money but a tad overpriced I think.
I don't understand the E4 and 5 problems if the bike is already manufactured.
Over egged I feel.

I'm guessing when the bike was made is irrelevant - its when it's registered for the road that counts?
So if you did it now it would have to comply with E4 & 5 - but back when a MGS01 was new E4 & 5 weren't in force?

'By the way this is the strongest and fastest aircooled 2 cylinder ever built.'   -   Quite a claim.

I don't care. The best looking Guzzi ever IMHO. It would look great in my garage next to the 916 8-)

My right palm has been itching today. I had better buy that euro millions ticket

The MGS01 was only for the track wasn't it? Not for road - so to go onto the public road it will have to pass an 'E' test.

Up to a few years ago you could get one new for about 18...if memory serves......pistons are a service item

No reason why the pistons should not last any longer than a standard Daytona with road use provided Luigi put it together properly.

Rather expensive though- compared to my Raceco Daytona which has a British built 1225cc engine with same power and is lighter. Mine may not be quite as pretty though, in some eyes.

I imagine the original 1288cc Raceco bike is much faster than the MGS, even in its current detuned state (lower compression so a starter motor can be used)- that bike is road registered too.

I remember reading about that too.

The MGS was designed to be a normal road bike but was rebranded as a track bike at the last minute because Guzzi were too slow in making them before the emissions laws changed.

I can't imagine the pistons would be a service item had it been launched as a road bike, but the MGS ridden by Guareschi to a win at Daytona may have needed lots of bits "servicing".

Was the Raceco the one Paul Lewis used in BoTT?

Saw him on that at Mallory once. I think he started at or near the back of the grid (not there for practice I suspect), by Gerrards he was in the top 3, having weaved his way through the entire pack off the start. Pretty sure he won.

Fairly certain that is correct.

Guy.....the MGSO 1 forms the basis of an extensive article in Benzina...the bike , if memory serves is called Sofia and belongs to the photographer....pistons were recommended by the factory at something like a 1000 miles....I'll see if I can find the article.....

I have met the guy from Benzina at Cadwell, and it definitely does say replace pistons every 1000 miles regardless of condition in the MGS service book, presumably on the assumption the bike is being properly raced- I wonder how many owners actually go that far?

P.S. Just chatted with Bruce who has built many big bore motors and the pistons on his motors are not a service item- the first 1225cc motor he built in 2000 is still on its original pistons.

Think Guzzi are milking gullible MGS owners!

Does sound a bit far-fetched, but made a good story for MCN, I think it was. :D
